Privacy Policy
Dilo: Habla Inglés ("Dilo") is an iPhone app published by Cloudy Tuesdays LLC ("we", "us"). Dilo needs to hear your voice to work, so this page explains exactly what happens to your voice, to what you say in conversations, and to your progress. The Spanish version of this policy is available at /privacidad; both versions say the same thing.
Your progress: on your iPhone and in your iCloud
The situations you complete, your stars, your pronunciation results, and your settings are stored on your iPhone. If iCloud is on, Dilo also syncs them through iCloud key-value storage in your own Apple Account, so your progress follows you across devices. We cannot access this data; Apple stores it under its privacy policy.
Your voice in "Practica": pronunciation scoring
When you tap the microphone to repeat a phrase, the app records that clip and sends it directly from your iPhone, over an encrypted connection, to Microsoft Azure AI Speech, together with the text of the phrase. Azure compares your voice with the phrase and returns a score for each word and sound, which is what you see on screen.
- The audio does not pass through our servers, and we do not store it.
- The app does not keep the recording after it has been scored.
- Microsoft processes the audio as our service provider only to return your score. We have not enabled audio logging on our Azure service. Microsoft's handling is governed by its terms and its privacy statement.
So you can hear how each phrase sounds, the app also sends Azure the text to be read aloud (course phrases and the characters' replies) to generate audio. That text contains no information about you.
Your conversations in "Vívelo": the AI tutor
In Vívelo you speak English with a character. Your speech is turned into text on your own iPhone by Apple's speech recognition; the audio of these conversations does not leave your device.
That text, along with the situation's context (the scene, your mission, and the earlier turns of the conversation), is sent to our server, which forwards it to Anthropic (the Claude AI model) to generate the character's reply, corrections, and the end-of-mission summary.
- We don't store your conversations. Our server only processes them to send you a reply.
- Anthropic processes the text under its commercial API terms, does not use it to train its models, and may retain it for a limited period for safety and abuse prevention. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
- Don't share sensitive information (such as passwords, card numbers, or health information) in conversations. The characters are fictional and don't need real details about you.
Before you use pronunciation scoring or Vívelo for the first time, the app explains these transfers to Microsoft and Anthropic and asks for your permission.
Anonymous device key (App Attest)
To protect our server from abuse and to apply daily limits (for example, one free Vívelo mission per day), the app uses Apple's App Attest. On first launch, Dilo creates a cryptographic key that stays in your iPhone's secure hardware, and Apple confirms it belongs to a genuine copy of Dilo. Our server stores the key's public half, a random identifier, a daily usage counter, and, if you have Premium, the date it is active until.
None of this includes your name, Apple ID, device serial number, or advertising identifier, and we don't use it to identify you. Deleting Dilo abandons the key.
Purchases and Premium
Premium subscriptions are processed by Apple. We never receive your name, Apple ID, or payment details. To activate Premium, the app sends our server the purchase receipt signed by Apple (transaction identifier, product, and purchase and expiration dates). The server verifies Apple's signature and records on your anonymous key until when Premium is active.
Technical connection data
Like any internet connection, requests to our server include technical data such as your IP address, the time, and the app version. Our server is hosted on Amazon Web Services in the United States and keeps short-term operational logs to run the service, fix bugs, and prevent abuse. We delete them within 30 days.
Microphone and speech recognition permissions
Dilo asks for access to the microphone (for Practica and Vívelo) and to speech recognition (to turn your speech into text in Vívelo). You can deny or revoke them at any time in Settings → Dilo. Without them you can still listen to the situations, but you won't be able to practice out loud.
Who receives data
| Provider | What it receives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft (Azure AI Speech) | Audio of your Practica attempts and the phrase text; text to turn into speech | Score your pronunciation and read phrases aloud |
| Anthropic (Claude) | The text of your Vívelo conversations and the situation's context | Generate the character's replies and corrections |
| Amazon Web Services | The app's requests to our server | Host our server |
| Apple | What Apple processes for App Attest, iCloud, and purchases | Verify the app, sync your progress, and bill Premium |
These providers process data on our behalf, generally in the United States. We don't share data with anyone else unless the law requires it.
What we don't do
- No accounts, sign-up, or sign-in.
- No ads, and no advertising identifier (IDFA).
- No third-party analytics, tracking, or data-collection SDKs.
- We don't sell or share personal information for advertising.
- We don't use your voice or your conversations to train AI models.
Children
Dilo is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights and deleting your data
Depending on where you live (for example Mexico, the European Union, Brazil, or California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or object to the use of your data. Because we have no accounts and don't store your voice or conversations, almost everything about you is on your iPhone and in your iCloud:
- Delete the app to remove the progress stored on your iPhone.
- To remove progress from iCloud, turn off iCloud for Dilo in Settings → [your name] → iCloud before deleting the app, or contact us and we'll help.
- Our server logs delete themselves within 30 days. To exercise a right regarding them, contact us.
Changes
If we change how Dilo handles information, we'll update this page and the date above. Significant changes will also be noted in the app or in its release notes.
